JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT FUNDING
Burlington is once again eligible to apply for federal Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) funding. This funding is intended to support a broad range of crime prevention efforts, depending on local needs. This year, Burlington is eligible to apply for $112, 816, which can be spent over a four-year period. The City's application is due by June 30, 2010.
The City intends to apply for the following JAG allocations:
* $46,000 – for the Community Justice Center to enhance public safety, crime prevention efforts, support for victims of crime, and facilitation of offender re-entry.
* $51,816 – for staffing to support the new Rapid Arraignment and Intervention pilot initiative, developed by the Burlington Police Department and Chittenden County State’s Attorney.
* $3,000 – to help support cultural competency training for community leaders involved in CEDO's We All Belong initiative.
* $2,000 – for graffiti cleaning supplies for the City’s Graffiti Removal program
* $10,000 – for administrative costs of the grant.
