How to Get to the Fireworks and Back Again

Be advised of street closures for outbound traffic after the fireworks. If you park at the Waterfront, be prepared to wait one hour after the fireworks end because of pedestrian and bus traffic.

CCTA PARK AND RIDE SERVICE FROM UVM

Park at the Gutterson Field House / Patrick Gymnasium lot off Spear Street. Buses will run from 3:45 pm to 11:30 pm. The round trip fare is $1.00 (one child under 5 years old rides free for each paying adult). Please have exact fare. Buses will be waiting on Battery Street between Main and King at 10:00 pm for the return trip to the UVM Gutterson Field House lot. Buses will leave the waterfront as they fill, and will make continuous trips until 11:30 pm. This is an easy, no-hassle way to get to and from the Waterfront. Take advantage of it!

CCTA COLLEGE STREET SHUTTLE AND CITY PARKING GARAGES

Park in downtown garages and take the shuttle down College Street. Downtown garages offer parking from 6 to 11 pm. Shuttles will run every 30 minutes from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. From 11:00 am to 6:00 pm, the shuttles will run every 15 minutes, and from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm they will run every 30 minutes. College Street Shuttle service ends at 9:00 pm to accomodate after-fireworks traffic management.

RIDE YOUR BIKE

Avoid using fossil fuels altogether to travel to and from the fireworks. Burlington Parks and Recreation encourages you to ride bikes to the event. All of the Waterfront parks are located along the Burlington bikepath and Local Motion will be providing secure bike parking at Waterfront Park.

TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT TO LEAVE DOWNTOWN

Traffic circulation changes significantly at 9:45 pm to give CCTA buses priority. Motorists are strongly encouraged to use the following designated streets, and avoid neighborhoods or north-south routes. Rather than drive downtown, consider bus or train service to make your visit as pleasant as possible.

Starting at 9:45 pm:

  • There will be two lanes leaving the city on Main Street.
  • King Street, and Maple Street between South Prospect and South Union, will be closed.
  • Traffic flow on College, Cherry, and Pearl Streets will be forced on to Colchester Avenue or the Northern Connector Beltline (Rt. 127).
  • Traffic flow to and from side streets (north-south) will be very restricted.
  • All parking lots off Lake Street will exit up Depot Street to North Avenue.
  • Traffic lights will be adjusted and intersections staffed with police officers.

CCTA REGULAR BUS SERVICE

See CCTA for routes, and schedules. Bus service from the Cherry Street Bus Station ends at 9:30 pm to accomodate after-fireworks traffic management.

BOAT TRAFFIC IN THE HARBOR

Harbor Closes from 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm. Boat traffic from King Street Dock or Perkins Pier will exit the harbor to the south only. A No Boat Traffic Zone will be extended to include the ENTIRE INNER HARBOR from the north end of the breakwater to the south end. This safety zone is strictly enforced. The Perkins Pier and Waterfront Boat Ramps will be closed during this time. NOTE: All watercraft, including canoes and kayaks, must have working lights if they are on the water after dusk. Be careful and fun!

TRAIN SERVICE FROM THE SOUTH

Vermont Railway is adding the Fireworks Express to its regularly scheduled Champlain Valley Flyer service from Shelburne and Charlotte. The Fireworks Express will provide extended service into the night with an additional South Burlington stop (Bartlett Bay Road). Tickets are $14 per person round trip; Children under 2 ride free. Purchase Tickets in Advance to ensure adequate seating.
