The Burlington Public Safety Task Force was created by the City Council in
April 2005 to develop and carryout plan of action aimed at increasing awareness
and safety in the City. The Task Force included individuals and organizations
engaged in efforts related to prevention and intervention of sexual violence,
domestic violence, and other crimes.
The Center for Community and Neighborhood's
Community Justice Center,
a division of the City's Community and Economic Development Office developed a
Public Education and Safety Plan, which includes recommendations for actions that the
City of Burlington and community partners can take in an effort to respond to
crime, educate its citizens and promote safety. The plan reflects the input of
over forty stakeholders on the issue of community safety. The actions described
in the Plan are designed to support and build on the myriad of activities and
groups already working on public safety issues in our community.
The plan was endorsed by a resolution of the City Council on September 22, 2005.
The Council also requested that the Community Justice Center work with state
and local officials, advocacy organizations and citizens to implement the Public
Education and Community Safety Plan and provide a progress report to the City
Council Public Safety Committee in April 2006.
