September 16, 2005 Organized by Magic Hat Brewing Company in partnership with the City, the
Hurricane Benéfeté raised over $22,000 for the people of Moss Point. |
September 27 - 30, 2005 Then Mayor Peter Clavelle, his wife Betsy Ferries, and George Hamilton,
President of the Institute for Sustainable Communities, take a trip to Moss Point
and the surrounding Jackson County to assess the needs of the people and to meet
with Moss Point Mayor Xavier Bishop. |
October 8, 2005
After worries that Moss Point's annual Fall de Rah Festival (which
features a stunning display of pumpkins) would not go on due to damage to Moss
Point's pumpkin harvest, the city quickly collaborated with Gardner's
Supply for the 3rd annual Great Pumpkin Festival in Burlington to donate 1,200
pumpkins to the city of Moss Point. Thanks to Barrett's Trucking, all
pumpkins made it to Moss Point just in time for the event, which was a boost
for the cities ego. |
October 27 - 29, 2005
All proceeds from the Fun for Change non-profit that runs the Haunted Forest
Fundraiser in Williston goes directly to the benefit of Moss Point. Over 6,000
people attend throughout the weekend. |
November 2005
Ian Solomon, a student at Shelburne Community School, sends 60 lbs. of base
ball equipment to Moss Point for the Little League program. Another 100 lbs. of
equipment is shipped in April. |
March 18 - 25, 2006
University of Vermont (UVM) students spend their spring break in Moss Point as
part of UVM's alternative spring break (ASP) program. The students stay at
the First Baptist Church in Moss Point and work on various cleanup efforts. |
March 19, 2006

March 24, 2006
"Bash for Cash" at Higher Ground in South Burlington features a
high class talent show from five regional high schools. The fundraiser includes
acts from Bellows Free Academy in Saint Albans and Fairfax, Champlain Valley Union
HS, Essex HS, and Burlington HS. Students from Moss Point HS are flown up to
participate as well. Proceeds benefited the Moss Point HS Student Activities
program. |
March 25 - April 1, 2006
Members from the Burlington's First United Methodist Church spend a week
in Moss Point for a Volunteer in Mission project and provide hands on assistance
to the Dantzler Memorial First Methodist Church. Burlington Reverend Richard
Hibbert makes a strong connection with Moss Point Reverend David Greer to be sure
the partnership will continue into the future. |
April 30, 2006
Contois Auditorium in Burlington City Hall hosts the Kreole Elementary School
Fundraiser with performances by local musicians and a silent auction from local
businesses. All the proceeds were used to purchase vital education materials for
the school. |
October 13, 2006
The Preservation Hall Jazz Band played at the Flynn Theater. The
Burlington-Moss Point Sister City Committee presented a pre-concert open
discussion describing the history and continued goals of this partnership. |
October 14, 2006
After a food and supply drive at Battery Park, Burlington was able to send a
tractor trailer load of non-perishable food items, jackets and coats,
children's clothes and building supplies to Moss Point, Mississippi. |
November 30 - December 10, 2006
Fletcher Free librarians Robert Resnik and Rebecca Goldberg, and library
volunteer Gigi Weisman take to the road in the Library's van on an outreach
mission to help the Ina Thompson Library in Moss Point, Mississippi. Librarian,
Carol Hewlett, and the residents of Moss Point and neighboring Pascagoula, sing
and dance with joy during the visit and are extremely appreciative of the $3,000
raised for their library.
